Blinded by the Light
It’s 1987 and British-Pakistani Muslim teenager, Javed, is living in Luton, England. He writes poetry to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the strictness of his parents, but when a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, an entirely new world of self expression opens up to him. As he finds an outlet for his dreams in the working-class lyrics of “The Boss,” Javed soon finds his own unique voice and a place in his world.
Based on the life of journalist Sarfraz Manzoor as he wrote it in his memoir Greetings from Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N’ Roll, Viveik Kalra stars as Javed. With a script co-written by Manzoor, Paul Mayeda Berges, and director Furinder Chadha, the film continues the new genre of band inspired movies hitting the big screen. This is for anyone who has ever wanted to dream.
